The Player
Name: Anna (I already play PRONGS, but it seemed like we needed more teachers, especially if we go ahead with adding electives)
Gender: Female
The Character
Character's Name: Livia Agostini (tell me someone saw the association)
Character's Gender: Female
Character's Appearance: Livia is a thin, 5’8” with long, dark brown hair and soft, almond shaped brownish green eyes set in a long face with high cheekbones. Her hair is wavy, and when left to its own devices, is a mess. A liberal amount of sleek easy’s each morning makes it manageable, but she has to use an flattening charm to get it to straight, and most of the time, she doesn’t consider it worth the bother to have stick straight hair. This means that it spends a lot of time either in a loose chignon or doing unusual things while out of one. She has olive skin, as is typical for a girl with Italian heritage, and wears a great deal of black, white, and tan because they’re simple and professional. She has a certain fresh, natural beauty with sultry eyes and her thick, wild dark hair.
Her vain indulgences, aside from her hair from time to time, are eyebrows and her high-heeled shoes. The former are dark and thick with a high arch that goes almost straight across to the tapered end after hitting the top of its arch, and they are always perfectly shaped and groomed. The latter being shoes, she has nearly 40 pairs that she brings to the school, each taller and more uncomfortable than the next in a range of bright colors and attractive patterns, and usually buys at least two pairs while she’s there in a moment of weakness. She claims she wears heals because she likes the look, but she also wears them because it makes her 5’11” tall, and she enjoys towering over everyone.
Character's History: Livia is the Ancient Runes teacher and the Latin NEWT Elective Teacher.
Livia was born in Italy on February 2, 1943, currently 33 years of age, but she does not remember living there as a child. Her family, having been forced to remain in Italy through most of WWII, had been lucky to survive, losing Livia’s Grandfather during this time. Soon after the Allied troops recaptured Italy, Livia’s mother and father decided to move to Britain during the reconstruction, if only to avoid the atmosphere of Civil unrest and raise a child in a peaceful environment. Her mother is a muggleborn witch, where as her father was the youngest son of a prominent wizarding family. The community enjoyed a great scandal when such one of the most well respected wizards in Italy married a muggleborn nobody he met at school. Livia has inherited some of his contempt for social rules.
Her father, born a wealthy nobleman, has never had to work for his money, but continues to associate with important ministry members because of his generous donations to various organizations, which can’t be called entirely unselfish for obvious reasons. They chose to remain in England even after reconstruction efforts in Italy because of the preferential treatment shown to the wealthy by the British Ministry.
Livia went to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1954 – 1961; she was sorted into Ravenclaw, and became a prefect in her 6th year. She graduated with good marks, and moved to Rome, where she began studying Ancient Civilizations with a focus in Ancient Runes and Archeology as it relates to the wizarding community. She spearheaded a campaign led my the Italian Ministry to locate the original underground temple of the Cult of Dionysus, believed by some at this time to have been steeped in Dark Magic. Unfortunately, the temple was never discovered and most think it was destroyed during an earthquake, as it is believed to have been located near a fault line. However, their excavations did lead to the discovery of a rather mysterious cult statue of Mithrace, which was taken into possession by the Department of Mysteries and has not been seen since.
After this, she spent a few years traveling Europe and visiting the places where various Germanic tribes were thought to have dwelt to learn more about the uses of Ancient runes before Rome conquered many of them and adopted some of their ideas. Learning about as much as she could from these wanderings, she moved back to Rome for a few years, where she was hired by the Italian Ministry once again to work in the History and Research department. During this time, she became engaged twice to different people, but broke it off shortly before the wedding plans were finalized each time.
Two weeks after her 31st birthday, she received a message from her father saying that her mother was in bad health, and that he needed help caring for the aging witch. She moved back home immediately, helping care for her mother for the rest of the year, until her health improved enough that she no longer required round-the-clock care, and her father no longer needed her help. However, once this time was up, Livia had grown weary of traveling and decided to remain in London and find a job there. Though she applied to work for the British Ministry in their History and Research Department, there were only entry level openings, and she declined the job.
Speaking to an old school friend, whose daughter attended Hogwarts, Livia learned that the Ancient Runes teacher, Tobias Ezek, had recently died at the age of 144. On a long shot, Livia sent a message to Dumbledore inquiring about the position. To her great pleasure, Dumbledore proposed an interview, and the rest fell into place. She began teaching at the school this year, and so far, she has enjoyed the job greatly, but is somewhat frustrated by being confined to an office rather than roaming around outside all day.
She speaks Italian and English more or less fluently, and has taken Latin since she was a young girl. This year, she’s also opted to teach a second class, an elective exclusive to NEWT students, of Latin. The class will learn basic constructions, and hopefully, be translating some basic Latin by the end of the term. If the class gets there, it will probably be some Livy, a bit of Cicero, and mixed with a little Martial & Catullus for good measure.
Character's Personality:
Livia is, for the most part, is a typical, laid-back Italian. She is late to her own classes much more frequently than other teachers, something she also adopted from the Italians, and has a slight, but unobtrusive accent. She loves the outdoors, and constantly has every window in her classroom wide open, looking out onto the Quidditch pitch and the green. She has tried to hold lessons outside on more than one occasion, but since it required the use of a chalkboard, it was more trouble than it was worth. She is the sort to get more riled up at a Ravenclaw quidditch game than the Ravenclaw students, and once assigned a student two weeks of detention for hexing one of the Ravenclaw Quidditch players.
She has a rather explosive temper at times, though she is usually able to control it around her the kids she teaches. She’s very bright, but having experienced little suffering in her life, she isn’t as emotionally mature as most 30-something year old women. She is passionate and free spirited, part of the reason she enjoys the outdoors. This became troublesome for her as a young adult, though she is more in control of her life now that she’s older and wiser. She’s not very good at hiding her emotions and has a tendency to be a little bit tactless, telling it like it is rather than saying what people want to hear. If she doesn’t like you, you know it. However, to the rest of the population, she’s generally kind, though hotheaded.
((I know we JUST had someone apply for an Italian character, but it was the weirdest thing, I was sitting on this application at the time trying to elaborate on personality. The first thing I thought when I saw her application was, "Oh my god, someone broke into my brain," more or less. I thought for a second there that someone had had my exact idea. Haha, fortunately, not quite. Just same house and nationality.))
Pictures ((because I wasn't entirely satisfied that my description had gotten her))
